Getting to the University of Surrey

Arriving at Heathrow Airport

RailAir coaches connect Guildford railway station with Heathrow Airport Terminal 5 and Heathrow Central Bus Station every hour, running from early morning until late at night, seven days a week. Alternatively, National Express travel between Woking station and Heathrow Airport Terminals 2, 3, and 5 (with onward connections to Terminal 4) 18 times a day. There are frequent train services from Woking to Guildford—check the National Rail website for schedules.

Arriving at Gatwick Airport

Gatwick station is located in the South Terminal of the airport and provides direct rail-air link trains to Guildford hourly between approximately 5:15 am (6:00 am on Sundays) and 11:00 pm. Check the National Rail website for exact timings.

Arriving at London City Airport

London City Airport is well connected to the London Underground system. From there, travel to London Waterloo train station, then follow the instructions on how to reach campus by train.

Arriving at London Stansted Airport

London Stansted is not the most convenient airport for reaching the University. Train and bus services connect the airport to Liverpool Street Station in London. From there, various routes can take you to London Waterloo train station, where you can take a train to Guildford.

Arriving at London Luton Airport

London Luton is also not the most convenient airport for reaching the University. A bus service connects the airport to a nearby train station, from which regular train services run to central London. Alternatively, buses run directly from the airport to central London (see the London Luton Airport website for further details). From central London, various routes can take you to London Waterloo train station, where you can board a train to Guildford.

Arriving at London Waterloo Train Station

The most convenient way to travel from London Waterloo Station to Guildford is by taking a direct South Western Railway train. The journey typically takes around 35-40 minutes, with trains running approximately every 10-15 minutes.

Arriving at Guildford Train Station

Guildford is on the main railway line between London Waterloo and Portsmouth. Half-hourly train services run from Guildford to London Waterloo, with a journey time of approximately 40 minutes. For further details, visit the National Rail website.

Getting to the University of Surrey from Guildford Station

  • Walking: You can walk from the station to Stag Hill campus in approximately 10-15 minutes, depending on your specific location on campus. Use Google Maps for directions.

  • Bus: Stagecoach has replaced Arriva and now operates the number 1 and 17 bus services between the station and various University locations. The earliest service runs at approximately 6:00 am, and the last bus departs just before midnight. On Sundays, there is a reduced service.

  • Taxi: Taxis are available from both exits of the station.

Arriving by Road from London

If approaching from London or the M25 (Junction 10), stay on the A3 bypass until you reach the exit signposted Cathedral and University. The campus is very close to this junction. Follow the signs to the University, ensuring you do not follow directions to the Town Centre.

Arriving via A322 or A323

If approaching on the A322 or A323 from Bagshot or Aldershot, at the A3 roundabout, take the exit signposted Portsmouth, then turn off at the first exit (signposted Cathedral and University).

Arriving via A281 or A3100

If entering Guildford from Horsham (A281) or Godalming (A3100), leave the central gyratory system at the exit signposted Farnham (A31). After approximately 200 yards, at the mini-roundabout, take the first right into Guildford Park Road, and continue along Madrid Road and The Chase for about a mile. At the next roundabout, take the third exit for the University entrance.

Car Parking and Cycling Facilities

Visitors can use pay-and-display parking or arrange for a visitor permit. If you are attending an open day, free parking will be available and clearly signposted. For more details, visit the University’s car parking information page .

The University provides several bike parking facilities across Stag Hill campus. The campus map lists available Cycle Parks, which can be used by both guests and visitors. Key locations with bike parking include the Guildford School of Acting, Senate House, and the Duke of Kent Building.

The University also offers Beryl e-bikes, a cost-effective and sustainable way to travel between campuses and the local area. Bikes are available for hire with designated parking zones on both campuses and throughout Guildford. Stag Hill locations include the Ivy Arts Centre, Library, Senate House, and the Duke of Kent Building.
